Boss was a rescue of a different sort. After we lost Molly, we assumed Lucy would be fine - her personality just seemed to be made
for the sole dog in a home. We were wrong. After a few months, we would come home to find Lucy sleeping in our bedroom closet. Very unusual. We realized
she needed a companion. Boss was placed for adoption by his family of 11 years; he was at least 12 years old when we adopted him. Boss had several issues -
he was arthritic, particularly in his rear legs, and was overweight; he was almost deaf (and became fully deaf soon after we adopted him); he had cataracts in
both eyes, particularly his right; and he had Cushing's disease. We believe all these issues overwhelmed his owners. He had difficulty walking, and it took
several months to build him up - and to reduce him down - to the point he could take daily walks. But he really loved them once he was able.
The picture below was the day we picked him up and we were bringing
him home.
